Qatar Immigration Card

Compliance-first Checklist Actionable

The Qatar Identity Card (QID), commonly called the immigration card, is the most important document for every resident in Qatar. Issued by the Ministry of Interior (MOI), it serves as your proof of legal residency and is required for virtually every transaction — opening bank accounts, renting property, accessing healthcare, obtaining a driving licence, and using government services.

What Information Is on the QID?

  • Your full name (as per passport)
  • QID number — your unique 11-digit identification number used across all government systems
  • Nationality and date of birth
  • Sponsor name and ID (your employer or your own company for investors)
  • Profession as registered with MADLSA
  • Expiry date — typically matches your visa validity

How to Get Your QID

The QID is issued after completing the residency process:

  1. Enter Qatar on your work visa or investor visa
  2. Medical examination — blood tests, chest X-ray, and general health screening at a Medical Commission centre
  3. Fingerprinting — biometric registration at an MOI service centre
  4. QID processing — your sponsor tracks the status through the MOI portal. Issuance takes 1-2 weeks after fingerprinting.
  5. Collection — collect your physical QID card from the designated MOI centre

QID Renewal Process

Your sponsor must initiate renewal before the expiry date. Late renewal incurs daily fines. The renewal process requires a valid passport, active health insurance, and may require an updated medical examination depending on your visa type and duration since the last medical.

Common QID Issues and Solutions

  • Name discrepancy — if your QID name does not match your passport exactly, request a correction through MOI before it causes problems with banking or travel
  • Profession change — if your actual job differs from what is on your QID, your sponsor can submit a profession amendment
  • Lost or damaged QID — file a police report and apply for replacement through MOI. Carry a copy of your QID separately from the original.
Keep a digital copy
Store a clear photo of both sides of your QID on your phone and in cloud storage. Many services accept a digital copy for verification, and having a backup prevents delays if your physical card is lost or damaged.
