Checklist
Actionable
Every visa applicant in Qatar must complete a medical examination and biometric fingerprinting as mandatory steps in the residency process. These are conducted at designated Medical Commission centres and MOI service centres respectively. This guide covers what to expect, how to prepare, and how to avoid common delays.
Medical Examination Process
- Timing — the medical must be completed within 3 days of entering Qatar on your work or investor visa.
- Location — designated Medical Commission centres (main centre in Doha Industrial Area, plus satellite centres).
- What to bring — passport (original), entry visa printout, 2 passport photos, and the medical referral form from your sponsor.
- Tests conducted — blood draw (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, syphilis), chest X-ray (TB screening), and general physical exam.
- Results — typically available within 3-5 working days. Your sponsor can check results online.
Fingerprinting Process
- Timing — after medical clearance is confirmed.
- Location — MOI service centres (main centres in Doha and satellite offices).
- What to bring — passport, medical clearance confirmation, and your sponsor or PRO representative.
- Duration — approximately 30 minutes. Biometric data (fingerprints and photo) are captured digitally.
- Confirmation — you receive a receipt confirming fingerprint registration.
After Medical and Fingerprinting
Once both are complete, your QID application moves to final processing. The QID is typically issued within 1-2 weeks after fingerprinting. Your sponsor tracks the status through the MOI portal and notifies you when the card is ready for collection.
Tips to Avoid Delays
- Attend the medical within 3 days of arrival — delays risk visa complications
- Go early in the morning — Medical Commission centres are busiest after 9 AM
- Bring exact documents — missing photos or an expired passport cause rejections
- Fast before the blood test — some centres recommend fasting for accurate results
- Coordinate with your PRO — they can manage the paperwork flow between medical and fingerprinting
Group processing
If you are bringing multiple employees to Qatar, coordinate their arrival so they can attend the medical examination together. Group appointments can often be arranged through the Medical Commission, saving time for everyone.
